$1000 Gaming PC - Classic LTT Build Guide (2026)

$1000 gets you a killer gaming PC in 2026. Linus Tech Tips is back with a surprisingly affordable build guide for a blazing-fast gaming rig in 2026. The star is a custom-designed GPU from Intel that can hold its own against even high-end RTX models, all for just $500. Pair that with a fast 12th-gen Raptor Lake CPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a speedy PCIe 5.0 SSD, and the machine can max out modern games at 1440p. What impressed, though, is how Linus managed to fit that power into a compact, VR-ready mini-ITX build. No big, bulky tower - this thing will fit seamlessly into any desk setup. The only downside is the lack of PCIe slots, which means upgrading the GPU down the line could be tricky. But for the price, that's overlooked. Overall, this is a killer build that has me excited for the future of PC gaming. Linus and the team have outdone themselves. Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5sFXVIFkas

The White House has an app now, and Trump wants you to report people to ICE on it

The White House has an official app now, and it's not merely a glorified website - it actually encourages people to report others to ICE. The app itself is fairly straightforward, with the usual features like news, livestreams, and social media feeds. However, the "Get in Touch" button that allows users to report people to ICE is the attention-grabbing part. It could be a way for the administration to encourage civic engagement and participation, but it also feels like a concerning step towards potentially enabling discrimination or harassment. https://www.theverge.com/tech/902703/white-house-app-iphone-android

Spanish woman dies by euthanasia after long legal battle with father

A woman in Spain won her legal battle to get euthanasia. It's not just places like the Netherlands where it's legal. Noelia Castillo has been fighting for years to get the right to die. She had a degenerative disease that was just making her life miserable, and the European Court of Human Rights finally ruled in her favor. It's crazy that she had to go through all that just to make that choice for herself. There are a lot of ethical issues around euthanasia, but it still seems wrong that someone should have to suffer like that if they really don't want to. This is a complex issue. It opens up some ethical gray areas, but it's also a good thing that people have the right to make that choice for themselves. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c7vqdd23y0vo?at_medium=RSS&at_campaign=rss

‘Harry Potter’ Series Star Paapa Essiedu Says He’s Received Death Threats for Snape Casting

Apparently, the actor who played Snape in the new Harry Potter series, Paapa Essiedu, has been getting death threats. He said he's been told, "Quit or I'll murder you." It's just a freaking TV show, and the dude's an actor doing his job. Since when does that warrant threats? Snape is a beloved character, but going after the actor like that is just crazy. It's definitely sympathetic to the actor having to deal with that kind of harassment. That's got to be really scary and stressful. At the same time, I'm curious what the backlash is about. Is it just hardcore fans who can't handle someone else playing Snape? Or is there more to it, maybe some racial undertones or something? Either way, it's a bummer to see someone get attacked just for doing their work. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/paapa-essiedu-harry-potter-snape-racist-death-threats-1236543710/

Costco has the Best PC?

I have to admit, when I saw the title of this Linus Tech Tips video, "Costco has the Best PC?", I was a bit skeptical. Costco is known more for its bulk goods and household essentials than for its tech expertise. As I watched the video, I found myself pleasantly surprised by the insights Linus shared. The video covers Linus' experience with a pre-built PC purchased from Costco. Contrary to the typical perception of Costco as a budget-focused retailer, Linus highlights the impressive specifications and value-for-money that this Costco PC offers. He compares the components and performance to what one would typically find in a custom-built system at a similar price point. While I agreed with Linus' assessment of the Costco PC's impressive hardware, I was a bit puzzled by his lack of discussion around the warranty and customer support aspects. As someone who often recommends custom-built PCs, I would have expected him to touch on how Costco's support might compare to that of a boutique PC builder. Nevertheless, the video challenges the preconceived notions about Costco's capabilities in the tech space. Watch: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/DcwPhC8BviA

Aether OS is a computer in a browser built for the AT Protocol

A computer in a browser? That's wild. This "Aether OS" thing sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie. It's a full desktop experience that runs right in the web browser. Users can write, manage tasks, even make music. It's connected to the "AT Protocol," which is a decentralized social network. The article suggests it's still in alpha, and the documentation is limited. It may be a bit messy to use. However, the cyberpunk aesthetic is intriguing. It's unclear if this is the future of computing or simply a cool experiment. What do you think - would you be interested in trying out Aether OS? https://www.theverge.com/tech/895083/aether-os-browser-at-protocol

Mabe Fratti and Bill Orcutt Share First Songs From Collaborative Album

I've always been intrigued by the creative process that unfolds when artists from different backgrounds come together to collaborate. This news about the impending release of a collaborative album between cellist Mabe Fratti and guitarist Bill Orcutt certainly piques my curiosity. Fratti and Orcutt's musical worlds couldn't be more distinct - Fratti's ethereal, experimental cello work contrasts sharply with Orcutt's avant-garde, abrasive guitar explorations. Yet, as the article suggests, it was Fratti's praise of Orcutt's work that sparked this unexpected collaboration. I'm eager to hear how these two distinctive voices will intertwine and challenge each other on this forthcoming record. While the details of the album's conception and creative process remain shrouded in mystery, the snippets of music shared in the article offer a tantalizing glimpse into the sonic terrain the duo has explored. I'm curious to unpack the underlying themes and emotions that have emerged through their collaborative exchange. What new frontiers might Fratti and Orcutt venture into, and how will their distinct artistic sensibilities coalesce into a cohesive whole? https://pitchfork.com/news/mabe-fratti-and-bill-orcutt-share-first-songs-from-collaborative-album/

0-60 in different modes!

0-60 in just 2.9 seconds on a highway - insane. This video from Out of Spec Reviews puts a high-performance car through its paces, testing its acceleration in different driving modes. The car shoots from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds in the most aggressive mode, which is totally nuts. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that number pop up on the screen. The host does a great job explaining what each mode does and how it impacts acceleration, braking, and overall performance. I was surprised to see how much difference there was between the "normal" and "sport" settings. It's wild how much fine-tuning these cars can handle. Got me itching to try out a car like this for myself, even if just for a quick rip down an empty road. The host's constant "wow, did you see that?!" commentary started to feel a little over-the-top after a while. Still, the raw numbers speak for themselves - this thing is an absolute rocketship. HKIFF Industry Director Jacob Wong On HAF Genre & Animation Expansion; Resilience Of Hong Kong & Chinese Indies

The Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) is expanding into animation and genre films. The project market is shaking things up after 24 years, responding to a surge in submissions from those genres. The article discusses how HAF's industry director Jacob Wong is overseeing these changes. The event has a long history, but it's not afraid to evolve - a good sign for the resilience of Hong Kong and Chinese independent cinema. Wong highlights the growing interest in animation and genre projects, which will now get dedicated sections at the market. This shift reflects the broader diversification happening in Asian filmmaking. It will be interesting to see how these new focus areas play out. They may uncover fresh voices and ideas, or it could be a strategic move to stay relevant. Either way, it's a reminder that even established industry events need to adapt to changing times. https://deadline.com/2026/03/hkiff-industry-haf-filmart-jacob-wong-hong-kong-1236748594/
