Meta just announced an AI assistant called Muse and apparently it's supposed to be their redemption arc. The thing is, I'm genuinely skeptical they can pull this off because the company has spent years burning through credibility with its AI decisions. Meta made this big AI announcement that somehow managed to overshadow OpenAI and Anthropic's stuff. They're positioning Muse as a trustworthy alternative, but that feels hollow when you consider how Meta has handled AI ethics and user data historically. The article raises a real question about whether a shiny new product can actually fix deeper institutional problems. I get why they're trying. The AI space is competitive and Meta's got the resources to build something legitimately useful. But trust doesn't work like a product launch. It builds slowly through consistent behavior, and Meta's track record on that front is spotty at best. Maybe Muse will be technically impressive. That doesn't automatically mean people will trust it more than they trust OpenAI or Anthropic, especially when those companies have spent energy on transparency, whether you believe it or not. The real question isn't whether Muse is good. It's whether Meta has fundamentally changed how it operates.
