Kash Patel's personal email account was accessed by hackers linked to Iran

This is wild. Apparently, some Iranian hackers breached the personal email account of FBI Director Kash Patel and published all kinds of embarrassing stuff, like photos of him smoking cigars and posing with a huge bottle of rum. It's pretty crazy that a top government official could get hacked like this. The FBI confirmed the breach and said they've taken steps to "mitigate potential risks." They're even offering a $10 million reward for info on the hackers, who are supposedly linked to the Iranian government. Seems like these groups have been pretty active lately, going after US officials and companies. I'm not sure what to make of it all. Hacking is never cool, especially when it involves sensitive personal info. However, the stuff they leaked about Patel kind of makes him look like a tool. We'll have to see if any more details come out. Source: https://www.engadget.com/cybersecurity/kash-patels-personal-email-account-was-accessed-by-hackers-linked-to-iran-212618474.html?src=rss

The Government’s Shittiest Website

The US Postal Service has been directing people to such a shoddy website for over 30 years. MyMove is apparently using shady tactics to trap users in a never-ending maze of "deals" and confusing information. The article details how MyMove.com, the official website for changing your address with the USPS, is an absolute disaster. It's slow, buggy, and full of dark patterns designed to trick users into signing up for unnecessary services. Experts call it "online purgatory" - a frustrating experience that leaves people feeling lost and taken advantage of. The government should be providing a straightforward, user-friendly tool for something as basic as updating your address. Instead, they've handed this responsibility over to a sketchy third-party website that's more interested in maximizing profits than actually helping people. This is unacceptable. How is this allowed to continue for decades? The public deserves so much better than this. https://www.wired.com/story/the-governments-shittiest-website/

The kid-friendly Fitbit Ace is $100, which matches its best price

The Fitbit Ace LTE is a fitness tracker for kids ages 7-11. It offers the usual tracking features, as well as built-in games that use arm movements for activities like fishing and racing. The focus is on getting kids active, without the distractions of a full-blown smartwatch. The parental controls allow managing what they're doing. At $99.95, it's a good deal, compared to the original $180 price. The monthly subscription for features like calling and location sharing may be a consideration for providing that level of independence. Overall, it seems like a solid option for getting kids away from screens this spring. https://www.theverge.com/gadgets/899134/fitbit-ace-amazon-big-spring-sale-2026-deal

2nd-ever test flight of NASA's 'quiet' X-59 supersonic jet cut short by glitch

I've been following the development of NASA's X-59 "quiet" supersonic jet for a while now. It's supposed to be able to fly faster than sound, but without the loud sonic booms that make supersonic travel a no-go over populated areas. I was pretty excited to see this article about the second test flight. Looks like it got cut short due to a technical glitch, which is a shame. It must be frustrating for the engineers after all the work they've put in. Still, these things happen with experimental aircraft. It's all about learning and iterating. I'm curious to see how they fix the issue and what the next test flight will look like. This project is important for bringing back quiet supersonic passenger travel. Hopefully, they can work out the kinks and get the X-59 back in the air soon. https://www.space.com/technology/aerospace/2nd-ever-test-flight-of-nasas-quiet-x-59-supersonic-jet-cut-short-by-glitch

What if the next great astronomer isn't human? How AI is revolutionizing our study of the cosmos

Apparently AI is starting to play a bigger role in astronomy, which is mind-blowing. The idea that the next big discovery could come from a computer program instead of a human is just crazy. It's unclear what to think about it. On one hand, AI could be useful for analyzing all the data we're constantly getting from telescopes and space probes. There's no way humans can keep up with it all. On the other hand, it just feels a little impersonal. What if the AI misses something that a human would pick up on? We'll have to wait and see what kind of breakthroughs come out of this AI-astronomy collab. Could be amazing, could be a total mess. Maybe the next Einstein will be a robot. Weird to think about, but also kind of exciting. https://www.space.com/astronomy/what-if-the-next-great-astronomer-isnt-human-how-ai-is-revolutionizing-our-study-of-the-cosmos

Marathon completely changed my mind about extraction shooters

I'm intrigued by this take on Marathon. As an extraction shooter fan, I've often found the genre to be repetitive and impersonal, with players simply running from point A to point B, gunning down faceless enemies. But this article suggests Marathon takes a different approach, putting you in the shoes of the Runners, the perpetually endangered characters at the heart of the game. That shift in perspective is fascinating. Rather than playing as an anonymous, all-powerful mercenary, the article implies you experience the fear and desperation of the Runners, heightening the tension and stakes. It's a clever subversion of the typical extraction shooter formula, one that could lend the game a more immersive, empathetic quality. I'm curious to see how Marathon executes this concept in practice. Does it manage to make the Runners feel like fully-realized characters, or do they still come across as mere ciphers? And how does this new approach impact the overall gameplay loop and pacing? I'm eager to give the game a try and see for myself. https://www.polygon.com/marathon-extraction-shooters-analysis/

Jamie Blanks, the acclaimed Australian filmmaker behind hits like "Urban Legend" and "Valentine," has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 54. Blanks was a visionary director who brought a unique blend of horror and suspense to the big screen. Overwhelmed by Your Tax Return? File With a TurboTax Expert for Just $150 Flat

As someone who's wrestled with the complexities of tax filing, I'm intrigued by the promise of 100% accuracy and audit support for just $150. The article outlines TurboTax's new "Expert" service, which pairs you with a tax professional who handles your return from start to finish. No more sifting through pages of instructions or worrying about making mistakes. For a flat fee, you get the peace of mind of having an expert handle it all. While the price tag might seem steep compared to DIY software, the potential benefits could be worth it for those with complicated tax situations. The guarantee of accuracy and audit support is particularly appealing, as the last thing anyone wants is the hassle of an IRS audit. That said, I'm a bit skeptical of the "100% accuracy" claim. Taxes can be tricky, and even the best professionals can miss something. Still, the idea of offloading the entire process to an expert is intriguing, especially for those who dread tax season. https://www.ign.com/articles/file-with-a-turbotax-expert-for-just-150-flat

What's a minimal install for Linux? 6 reasons it can come in handy

Minimal Linux installs? That's my kind of thing. I'm always looking to streamline and optimize my setups, so this caught my eye. Turns out there are actually some solid reasons to consider a minimal Linux install. It's not just about saving disk space (though that's part of it). Apparently, these slimmed-down versions can also be faster, more secure, and easier to maintain. Plus, if you're the type who likes to customize everything from the ground up, a minimal install gives you that blank canvas to work with. I'm kind of torn, though. On one hand, the idea of a pared-down Linux distro is appealing. But on the other, I also like the convenience of having a ton of software pre-installed. Decisions, decisions. Guess I'll have to give it some more thought. https://www.zdnet.com/article/minimal-installs-linux/

Starfield Gets PS5 Release Date, New Price & More

Bethesda's really shaking things up with this one. The video covers the big news that Starfield is getting a PS5 release, in addition to the previously announced Xbox and PC versions. Apparently, it'll also have a higher price tag than a typical Bethesda game - $70 instead of the usual $60. That's a pretty bold move, but they're banking on this game being a real standout. I'm a bit torn on the whole thing. On one hand, I'm stoked to see Starfield coming to PlayStation. But that price hike has me scratching my head. I mean, I get that development costs are crazy these days, but $70 is a lot to ask, even for a massive RPG. I'll have to wait and see how the final product shapes up before I decide if it's worth the extra cost. What really caught my attention, though, was the release date. Apparently, Starfield is set to launch on November 11th, 2022 - the same day as the PS5 version of Hogwarts Legacy. That's going to be an interesting day for RPG fans. I'm curious to see how the two games stack up against each other and which one ends up being the bigger hit. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tA1P3aW9QN8
